What kind of picker are YOU?

As #pickerchicks, we enjoy picking. It is the love of the hunt that drew us together in the first place. But our shared love of picking doesn't mean we go about it the same way. In fact, you might say we have very different natural picking styles. Fortunately, our methods (and results) complement each other.

I guess you could say Sherri is more of a "hunter-gatherer" style picker. She loves going to estate sales, yard sales and flea markets, and rummaging and foraging for new finds to bring back, polish up and bring back to life.

She rarely goes with a specific target in mind because she is open to whatever she might find. Sometimes she comes up-empty handed from a picking trip, but more often than not, she emerges triumphant from a foray, with some really cool and unexpected pieces in her take-home haul.

I, on the other hand, am more of a predator, stalking a specific list of pieces or types of pieces. Technology is my tool of choice, and I will painstakingly refine my saved search parameters and watched-item lists on online auctions and buy/sell/trade sites, in order to be the first to notice and respond to an item when it pops up in my search results.

I may spend days or weeks, patiently waiting for the perfect piece to come along so I can pounce on it. The downside to this method is that I may completely overlook some things because I'm hyper-focused on finding the next big [insert "whatever I'm searching for at the moment" here.]

Because of our very different approaches, we wind up with a mix of inventory - some are the tried-and-true that we know our fans want, and others are unexpected pieces that we roll the dice and see if anyone else loves it as much as we do.

And even though our natural styles are different, we both love the thrill of the hunt, whether it's a road trip to a picking hole, meandering through a flea market, or snapping up some great piece from an auction.

So which type of picker are you? Are you a persistent hunter-gatherer? A steely-eyed predator? Or another style altogether? Leave us a comment - we love to hear from fellow pickers!

Happy picking!

I'm a scavenger, I like to go where nobody else will go and dig it out.

We LOVE your kind of picking, Terry! You unearth some very cool stuff...and share it with others!
